Dr. Shi, Heling ()

Brief Biography

Dr Heling Shi is a senior lecturer in the Department of Economics of Monash University, Australia, and a macroeconomic/institutional consultant for the Asian Development Bank and AusAID. He received his Ph.D. from Monash University in 1994, and was a visiting lecturer at University of London (1996-1997) and other visiting posts at Bonn University, the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Economics. His research papers appear in American Economic Review, Journal of Organization and Economic Behaviour, Journal of Comparative Economics, Economic Papers, and etc.

Before commencing PhD study in Australia, Dr Shi was granted a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Management, Fudan University (1982-1986), and studied as a postgraduate at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Science (1986-1988).

Dr Shi's teaching and research relate to Inframarginal Analysis of e-Commerce and Networking Decisions, International Trade and Economic Development, Industrial Organization, Economic Growth, the Chinese Economy, Economic Organization, Theory of the Firm, and Economic Analysis of Crime and Punishment.

Dr Shi's academic career has been recently extended to consultancy. In 2001, Dr Shi led an international consulting team, working with the State Development Planning Commission and 13 renowned economists in China, including Professor Dong Furen, Fang Weizhong, Wu Xinmu, and Xie Ping to provide policy advices for the Chinese Government on the development of the Western Region. He is also working with the Department of Family and Community Services in Australia to introduce Australia's social security system - Centerlink - to enlighten the current social security reform in China. He is also the CEO of an 20+ E-commerce consulting firm registered in Australia.
